Sebastian's French Fig

Sebastian’s French is an heirloom variety whose mother tree grew in the coastal town of Narbonne. An historically bustling port city, Narbonne’s location along the Mediterranean was an ideal climate for fig growing. A local named Sebastian brought a cutting of this variety to the US, where it came into possession of a cousin, Nick of Nixgardens. It is a common variety that can fruit without wasp pollination and the trees grow 5 lobed leaves. A tight eye gives good resistance to pests and spoilage. Nick brings the heirloom variety to the fig community where its awesome taste and texture can be enjoyed!

Purple and green coloring mixes together on the skin to give an overall earthy, brown, and red effect. Sebastian’s French figs also have crackling along the skin. These figs are equally as colorful on the inside as they are on the outside. The pulp is a mix of amber and red that can change depending on growing conditions. The pulp has a smooth, creamy, and buttery texture which makes them a joy to eat. Tasters describe mild, sweet, caramel and nutty flavors.

When do we ship cuttings?

Non-Rooted Cuttings(November/December):

We begin to ship cuttings once the trees are dormant and in a shippable state. Exact timing is weather dependent, but we usually start in November. Shipping continues throughout the winter and early spring. We stop shipping when the trees begin to break dormancy, normally around mid-March.

**All non-rooted cuttings ship between November and March regardless of the date selected during checkout. Orders placed during our pre-sale period(October/November) will ship out first in November/December. If you are rooting your cuttings in the spring, our cuttings can be kept in the refrigerator until you are ready to root them. They will be perfectly fine. That is what we do and they've turned into our most impressive trees.

Rooted Cuttings(Spring):

We begin shipping rooted cuttings once they are mature enough to ship. The shipping period typically begins late April and continues into June. Regardless of the date you select during checkout, we will ship when ready during that span. Please do not ask for ETA's or specific arrival dates. You will receive an email when your order ships with UPS Ground tracking details.
