Bismarckia nobilis is native to Madagascar and is a warm temperate to tropical palm which needs plenty of space and full sun. Although it is a warm climate palm, it will also tolerate drought and light frost when well established. It is also quite resistant to pests and disease and can handle a wide range of soil types so long as they are well drained.
In good conditions Bismarckia grows fairly quickly into a large and stunning tree but will also look amazing in a large pot. Its bold form and startling silver-blue foliage make for great visual impact. In seedlings and young plants, the leaves are tinged with an unreal purple colour.
Bismarckia seeds are quite large, similar in size to a Brazil nut, and under the right conditions will start to germinate in around 8 to 10 days on average. All seeds are checked prior to despatch to remove any that float in water, and full growing instructions will be supplied.
