Sempervivum kosaninii is a small, naturally occurring species from the mountains of the former Yugoslavia. This charming Hens & Chicks forms compact rosettes of green, velvety foliage with deep purple tips and develops beautiful seasonal color as growing conditions change.
With plenty of sunlight and moderate summer stress from heat and drought, the foliage can develop striking red and yellow pigments, creating a completely different look throughout the seasons. This species is also a prolific producer of offsets. It sends out numerous “chicks” on long stolons that spread and trail beautifully around the mother plant, making it especially attractive in containers, rock gardens, troughs, and raised succulent displays.

Sempervivums thrive in gritty, well-draining soil and containers with drainage holes. They do most of their growing during spring and summer and appreciate regular watering during active growth. They are incredibly frost hardy and can happily overwinter beneath a blanket of snow.
