Small Vintage Boisset Anduze Vase - 15¼"

This small 20th-century Anduze vase is a charming piece of traditional French pottery, likely crafted by the renowned Boisset family, a name synonymous with Anduze ceramics since the early 19th century. 

The Boisset pottery workshop began around 1610, initially making everyday pottery like oil and olive jars, pitchers, bowls for textile mills, tableware, as well as bricks and tiles. Legend has it that, in the mid-18th century, a potter from the Cévennes was inspired by the elegant Medici vases and ornate Florentine pottery he saw at the Beaucaire fair. Back home, he created a more rustic, sturdy version with a garland and crest—the design that would become the iconic Boisset vase.

Made of terracotta, this vase has the classic Anduze baluster shape with a flared rim, curved body, and rounded base, featuring the distinctive medallion and garland motif characteristic of Boisset craftsmanship. With its rich, weathered patina and rare glazed finish, it boasts a beautifully worn appearance, showcasing an aged green and brown glaze that enhances its timeless character.
