Striking Three-Piece Bohemian Glass Mantel Set Circa 1900

A striking enameled Bohemian crystal three-piece mantel set, circa 1900, richly decorated with gilding and hand-painted floral motifs. The ensemble comprises a tall baluster vase with a flared rim and foot, flanked by a pair of pedestal bowls of slightly varied height, lending a subtle sense of movement and individuality. The ruby-stained crystal is finely worked with burnished gold scrollwork, delicate white and pastel enamel blossoms in relief, and dotted accents that catch and reflect the light. The luminous pink tones shift beautifully with changing light, moving from warm rose to deeper ruby hues. The set is in very good condition, with light rubbing to the gilding and a few minor enamel losses, and no visible chips or cracks. Unmarked.

This lavishly enameled and gilt glass reflects the Rococo Revival taste of the Belle Époque at the turn of the 20th century. At that time, Bohemian workshops, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire (now the Czech Republic), exported richly ornamental wares throughout Europe, prized for their jewel-like tones and opulent decorative finish.
