String of Bananas (Senecio radicans)

Cascading vines of banana-shaped, plump leaves fill out a hanging basket making an attractive display year-round. The leaves have a translucent seam on one side allowing light to shine through. Small lavender, yellow or white blooms appear during the fall and winter and emit a pleasant, cinnamon-like scent. Grow this South African native in partial sun, avoiding hot afternoon sun so the leaves don’t burn. Make sure to grow this drought tolerant plant in well-drained potting soil.
