Black Gold Seed Starting Mix is the most consistent seed starting mix for growing your own vegetable, flower, herb transplants, and microgreens. Unlike other "potting mixes," Black Gold is double-screened which provides a fine consistency that young seedlings need to develop a solid root ball. This solid root ball will make it easier to remove transplants from trays and make for easier transplanting.

And because Black Gold is sterile, it reduces the amount of bacterial or fungal diseases that could develop during the transplant-growing timeline. You also won't have to worry about any weeds in your seed starting cells or block. Black Gold is also OMRI listed for organic vegetable production.

The peat moss component provides excellent water retention, minimizing repeated water applications. The white stones of perlite ensure proper root ball drainage and increased air circulation around roots. It also contains RESiLIENCE which is a silicon-enriched additive that can help enhance overall plant growth, flowering, and improve resistance to wilting.

Each bag of Black Gold Seed Starting Mix contains 16 quarts, which is sufficient for starting two of our 162-cell, heavy-duty seed starting trays. That's enough to grow 324 transplants! This mix works great for growing nightshades like tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant. This mix also works great for brassicas like broccoli, kale, cauliflower, cabbage, and kohlrabi.
