Tecomaria Hybrid Sunlovers ‘Compact Red’ PBR (Compact Red Cape Honeysuckle) is a vibrant, indigenous flowering shrub that brings masses of brilliant red colour to the garden. Its upright flower clusters are covered in striking bright red, trumpet-shaped blooms, creating a spectacular display through the warmer months while attracting sunbirds and butterflies. This improved compact variety has a neat, controlled growth habit compared to traditional Cape Honeysuckle, making it an excellent choice for borders, low hedges, screening, containers or as a colourful feature shrub. It is tough and adaptable, growing well in both sandy and clay soils and tolerating windy and coastal conditions. Plant in full sun or light shade, with full sun producing the best flowering and provide well-drained soil with moderate watering.

Plant & Care

Plant in well drained soil, enriched with organic matter where needed. Water moderately and regularly while establishing, then adjust watering conditions and soil moisture. Feed during active growth if needed to support healthy growth and flowering. Trim back after flowering or when needed to maintain it's compact shape and encourage fresh growth. In colder, frost-prone areas , mulch around the base if severe frost is expected. The plants can die back and regrow when conditions are warmer.
