Thyme 'Elfin' (Thymus serpyllum 'Elfin'), also known as Elfin creeping thyme, is a charming dwarf perennial herb in the mint family. This miniature cultivar forms a dense, low-growing mat of tiny, glossy green leaves that release a pleasant herbal fragrance when stepped on. It produces small lavender-pink tubular flowers in summer, attracting pollinators while adding delicate beauty to the garden. Primarily grown as an ornamental groundcover rather than for heavy culinary use, it excels in tight spaces due to its ultra-compact form.
Reaching only 1–3 inches in height and spreading 12–18 inches wide, 'Elfin' is one of the smallest thymes available, making it ideal for rock gardens, between pavers, or as a lawn alternative tolerant of light foot traffic.
