Important Climate Note: Black Bamboo is a very tropical bamboo and is extremely cold sensitive. In our experience it performs reliably only in South Florida, generally south of Sarasota. If you are outside this area, we recommend choosing a different bamboo variety.

Black Bamboo (Bambusa lako) is a striking clumping bamboo known for its dark, nearly black canes and tall upright growth. The dramatic culm color contrasts beautifully with its lush green foliage, creating one of the most distinctive bamboo displays available.

This bamboo forms a large tropical clump and is often used for privacy screens, landscape accents, and bold architectural plantings. When planted in rows with proper spacing, it gradually develops into a tall living screen that adds height, shade, and strong visual impact.

Like all bamboo we offer, Black Bamboo is a non-invasive clumping bamboo. It expands slowly from the base rather than spreading aggressively through underground runners.
