The cap glows from the inside. Not just underneath, where the gills catch the light and fan it across the walls, but through the wood itself. The entire surface of the parasol shines warm golden amber, the cathedral grain visible through the thin-turned wood like veins on a backlit leaf. The stripped log stem beneath it rises straight from a smooth round base, pale and slender, one dark knot hole at waist height marking the spot where a branch once grew. It looks like something that grew in a warm forest and learned how to make its own light.
Translucent Parasol Cap
The cap is turned from a single block of solid wood on a lathe until the walls are 3 to 5 millimeters thin. At that thickness, the wood becomes translucent. When the internal LED turns on, warm light passes through the wood fibers themselves, revealing the full grain pattern from the outside: cathedral arches, flowing color bands from pale cream to golden honey, and tiny mineral streaks that glow like threads of copper. The effect is a warm, even, whole-cap glow that fills the room with ambient light from every angle, not just from below.
The cap spreads wide in a shallow parasol shape, curving gently from a low peak at the center down to a thin, delicate rim. The ratio of cap width to stem diameter is roughly five to one, giving the lamp its distinctive mushroom silhouette. The outer surface is polished to a smooth satin that catches reflected room light even when the lamp is off.
Underneath the cap, hand-carved gill lines radiate from the center outward to the rim. The gills serve two purposes: they create the classic mushroom texture when viewed from below, and they thin the wood further along each carved channel, creating brighter lines within the overall glow. The result is a cap that glows warm amber across its entire surface while showing a subtle sunburst gill pattern from directly beneath.
Dimmable from full room-filling brightness, where the cap becomes a warm golden lantern visible from across the room, down to a soft background glow where the grain is barely visible and the gill lines disappear into a gentle amber wash.
Stripped Log Stem
The stem is a solid wood log stripped of bark by hand. The surface retains the natural texture of the tree: vertical grain ridges, a single dark knot hole at roughly two-fifths height, and the subtle lean and taper of organic growth. The wood is pale golden cream in tone, lighter than the warm amber of the glowing cap above. The stem is sealed with natural oil but not sanded smooth, preserving the tactile quality of stripped wood. The contrast between the rough, pale stem and the glowing, polished cap creates the visual tension that defines the lamp.
Turned Disc Base
The base is a smooth, turned round disc in the same warm tone as the cap. Sanded and polished, it contrasts with the rough stem above and matches the refined cap above. The disc is thick and weighted for stability. A braided cloth cord exits from the back of the base. A felt pad protects the floor.
