Vintage African Fulani wedding blanket. Cotton and wool. Naturally dyed and handwoven. This one is large and wonderfully patterned. It shows indication of wear and age but honestly very typical for textiles of this age and provenance as they’ve most likely been used daily and while traveling. Someone has sewn loops at one end so this could very well be hung. We also love them covering a low slung couch.
Fulani blankets hail from Mail and are given to a woman in her wedding day. Woven by her ancestors, it was a way to wish well upon her milestone and take the spirits of her ancestors with her.
