xGasterhaworthia ‘Royal Highness’ – Regal Zebra Plant

This compact hybrid succulent is a perfect little addition for any succulent enthusiast. Slow-growing it is perfect for smaller spaces, and a good addition to a desert terrarium too. the 'x' suffix indicates the hybrid nature of this plant - it has been bred to bring in the best traits of its parent Haworthia and Gasteria plants, making it all the more special for adding to your home. Easygoing, it is happy as long as it gets plenty of light and not too much water.

This plant is an old hybrid between an unknown species of Gasteria and an unknown Haworthia, which is known under other names too as people have attempted to guess its parentage.

Origin
This is a hybrid bred in cultivation, but its parent plants were natives of South Africa

Light
This plant will appreciate bright light with some direct sun. If its leaves are going red, it's probably getting a bit too much sun; if you're moving it to somewhere with higher light levels, do so gradually so it can acclimatise.

Water
Let the soil totally dry out before you water it again; note that this will be less frequent in winter, when the plant is growing less and drying out more slowly.

Humidity
This plant is adapted to dry air. Avoid anywhere especially damp.

Soil
Use a well-draining soil for this plant - a mix with added sand and grit, or one designed for cacti and succulents, should work well here. Repot every few years as the plant grows - this plant doesn't grow quickly, so if the roots haven't filled the pot yet, you won't need to repot.

Food
Feed sparingly during the growing season (spring and summer) with a diluted cactus or succulent fertiliser once a month. Avoid feeding in autumn and winter.

Temperature
Ideal temperature range is 15-25°C. Avoid temperatures below 7°C in winter, especially overnight or for longer periods.
