19th-century French walnut oil jar w/ maroon-brown glaze 13½"

A superb walnut oil jar with a maroon deep red-brown glaze from the nineteenth century. It is beautifully decorated with 'doigtier' ornamentation - a technique where the potter presses into the clay to make a chain-like pattern. There are three handles and a pouring spout. Glaze color can often tell us from which region the walnut pot was made. 

Due to this piece's brownish color, we can speculate it is likely from the Dordogne region of France. The charming, hand-made nature of this piece would make it a delightful addition to a collection of French pottery or transformed into a stunning and unique table lamp. If being used as a vase, a watertight container needs to be put inside.
