Antique Delftware Garniture of Five Vases

A Delftware garniture (probably third quarter 18th-century) set of five vases. Comprising of three covered vases (potiches) with "cage" or crown finials and two flared, open vases. 

All pieces are richly decorated in the characteristic blue and white palette of Delft faience. The intricate blue painting covers almost the entire surface of each vase, leaving minimal white ground, which is typical of mid-to-late 18th-century Delftware where complex, all-over patterns became fashionable. The detailed floral and foliate motifs, resembling dense foliage and blooming flowers with scrolling elements and various botanical forms. 

Bearing painted AP marks and paper labels to the underside with inventory numbers from a private collection. Collectors often number their pieces for cataloging purposes. "Verzameling" is the Dutch word for collection. 'J. F. M. Daniels' probably indicates the name of the individual who owned this collection. 

The AP mark belongs Anthonij Pennis owner of De Twee Scheepjes (The Two Little Ships), 1750-1770. De Twee Scheepjes pottery stood on the southern side of Molslaan. From 1750 Jan Pennis managed the company, and his son Anthonij officially took over from him in 1764. That same year Pennis Jr. registered his AP factory mark, adding that there was no board or ‘stone plaque in the facade’.
