This late nineteenth / early twentieth-century French terracotta cheese fassellier was originally used for straining cheese. The fresh cheese was prepared in a faisselle that then sat around the edge of this bowl to catch the whey as it drained. This could make a fabulous vase for a table centerpiece.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
