Asparagus setaceus 'Plumosus', commonly known as the Plumosa Fern or Lace Fern, is an attractive evergreen plant belonging to the Asparagaceae family and native to South Africa. Although commonly called a fern, it is not a true fern. It is valued for its extremely fine, thread-like foliage, which forms soft, feathery sprays and gives the plant a light and airy appearance.

The plant develops slender, spreading stems covered with tiny green cladodes that resemble delicate fern fronds. Its foliage forms an attractive layered effect, while some stems develop climbing shoots that can naturally wrap around nearby supports. The plant responds well to trimming and pruning, allowing its growth to be maintained in a neat and attractive form.

Environment

Sunlight: Grows best in bright filtered light to light shade. Protect the delicate foliage from harsh direct afternoon sunlight, particularly in hot climates, as strong sun can scorch the fine foliage.

Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist during active growth, while allowing excess water to drain freely. Water thoroughly during dry periods and avoid allowing the soil to remain waterlogged.

Soil: Prefers fertile, organically rich and well-drained soil. A moisture-retentive growing medium with good drainage helps maintain healthy foliage.

Fertilizer: Feed periodically during active growth with a balanced fertilizer to encourage healthy, dense foliage and vigorous development.
